Casari,Sonia A..
Dicrepidius brasilianus sp. nov., from Pará and Mato Grosso is described and illustrated. This is the second species of this genus recorded from Brazil. D. ramicornis (Palisot de Beauvois, 1805) is widely distributed from south of United States to south of Brazil. From Brazil, it was recorded from Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Santa Catarina states, but now other records are included. A comparison between the two Brazilian species and a discussion, including intraspecific variations, are presented.

Gomes,Lucas Roberto Pereira; Couri,Márcia Souto; Carvalho,Claudio José Barros de.
ABSTRACT Drepanocnemis Stein (Diptera, Muscidae) is a small genus of flies that occur in high altitudes in the Colombian Andes, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia. Herein we describe Drepanocnemis aurifrons sp. nov. from Cuzco, Peru, which is found from high (2904 m) to lower altitudes (707 m). An updated phylogeny, key to species and map of species’ distributions are provided, together with images and illustrations of the male and the female terminalia.

Vargas,Héctor A..
A new species of Eccopsis Zeller (Lepidoptera, Tortricidae) from the coastal valleys of northern Chile, with the first continental record of E. galapagana Razowski & Landry. Eccopsis Zeller, 1852 is reported for the first time from Chile. Eccopsis razowskii Vargas, n. sp. is described and illustrated based on specimens reared from larvae collected on native Acacia macracantha Willd. (Fabaceae) in the coastal valleys of the northern Chilean desert. Eccopsis galapagana Razowski & Landry, 2008, previously known only from the Galapagos Islands, Ecuador, is recorded for the first time from continental South America. Larvae of the latter were collected in northern Chile feeding on Prosopis alba Griseb (Fabaceae).

A new species of Echimys Cuvier, 1809 (Rodentia, Echimyidae) from Brazil Pap. Avulsos de Zool. (São Paulo)
Iack-Ximenes,Gilson Evaristo; Vivo,Mario de; Percequillo,Alexandre Reis.
Here we describe a new species of Echimyidae Amazonian rodent, Echimys vieirai sp. nov., based on two individuals from the south bank of Amazon river between the lower Madeira river to the right bank of the Tapajós, respectively in the Brazilian states of Amazonas and Pará, Brazil. The main diagnostic characteristic of this new species is the presence of a dorsal median dark maroon stripe on the head, running from the rostrum to the nape. Skull morphology is quite similar to that of Echimys chrysurus (Zimmermann, 1780), but our new species differ from other species in the genus by the development of the alisphenoid canal and dp4 morphology. Additionally, we offer a refinement of the diagnosis of the genera Echimys and Makalata.

Senna,André R..
A new amphipod species of the genus Elasmopus Costa, 1853 is described based on material collected from intertidal rocky shore, near the Suape Harbor, coast of the Brazilian state of Pernambuco. The new species may be recognized by the propodus of gnathopod 2 suboval, slightly tapering distally, palmar margin not defined by a stout seta, spine, or palmar corner, with a subdistal blunt tubercle, posterior margin covered by a dense fringe of plumose setae, and posterior margin of basis of pereopod 7 castelloserrate. This is the ninety-fifth species of the genus Elasmopus described worldwide, the most diverse genus in the family Maeridae Krapp-Schickel, 2008, and the eighth species recorded from Brazilian waters. A new species of Fizesereneia Takeda & Tamura, 1980 (Crustacea: Brachyura: Cryptochiridae) from the Red Sea and Oman Naturalis
Meij, S.E.T. van der; Berumen, M.L.; Paulay, G..
A new species of cryptochirid crab, Fizesereneia panda van der Meij, is described and illustrated based on specimens collected from the scleractinian corals Lobophyllia cf. hemprichii and L. cf. corymbosa from the Farasan Banks, Farasan Islands, and the reefs off Thuwal in the Saudi Arabian Red Sea, and from Symphyllia recta from reefs in the Gulf of Oman. This is the second cryptochirid species with the Red Sea as type locality. It can be separated from its congeners by the subrectangular carapace, raised midline and the complete division of the carapace depressions, and reddish black colour pattern of these concavities in live specimens. This new species is the seventh assigned to Fizesereneia. A DNA barcode for the new species has been deposited in...

A new species of freshwater amphipod (Crustacea, Amphipoda, Hyalellidae) from state of Rio Grande do Sul, Southern Brazil Biota Neotropica
Streck-Marx,Morgana Taís; Castiglioni,Daniela da Silva.
Abstract: The current study describes a new species of Hyalella found in a natural pond at the municipality of Palmeira das Missões, located in the northwestern region of state of Rio Grande do Sul, southern Brazil. The new species differs from other species found in state of Rio Grande do Sul (Hyalella bonariensis, H. castroi, H. kaigang, H. imbya, H. georginae, H. gauchensis, H. montenegrinae and H. pampeana) in the type and number of setae on uropods, on telson and on the inner face of gnathopod 1. Besides, Hyalella palmeirensis is morphologically similar to H. curvispina, especially in the shape and number of setae of uropods. However, H. palmeirensis differs from H. curvispina in having only two simple setae on telson, the inner face of gnathopod 1...

A new species of Gladioglanis is described from a single locality on rio Aripuanã, rio Madeira basin, and can be distinguished from its congeners by the following characters: dorsal-fin spine and spinelet absent, first dorsal-fin ray flexible, unbranched, followed by five branched dorsal-fin rays, pectoral-fin spine short and with few (5 anterior-side, 4 posterior-side) dentations, 22-25 anal-fin rays, round profile of the head in dorsal view, first dorsal-fin pterygiophore in contact with the neural spine of eighth vertebrae, 13 caudal-fin rays in both upper and lower lobes, and 60 total vertebrae. Some of its characters are discussed below and compared among the species of a small clade within Heptapteridae proposed by Bockmann (1998).

A new species of Glaphyropoma: the first subterranean copionodontine catfish and the first occurrence of opercular odontodes in the subfamily (Siluriformes: Trichomycteridae) Neotropical Ichthyology
Bichuette,Maria Elina; Pinna,Mario César Cardoso de; Trajano,Eleonora.
A new species of the rare copionodontine genus Glaphyropoma is described from subterranean waters in the Diamantina Plateau, Bahia State, central northeastern Brazil. This is the first troglomorphic species in the subfamily Copionodontinae. It is distinguished from all other copionodontines by the presence of opercular odontodes, and further distinguished from its only congener, G. rodriguesi, by the reduction of dark integumentary pigmentation. The new species shares the single synapomorphy previously proposed for Glaphyropoma, the marked narrowing of the first hypobranchial and indirect character evidence also supports its inclusion in the genus. The presence of opercular odontodes in the new species, in combination with a reviewed hypothesis of sister...
